I still don't know what I'm going to buy for myself (laughs); but I know what I'm going to buy a friend for this Christmas - an FAT sweatshirt!

「自分にどんなクリスマスプレゼントを？」（笑）についてはまだ考え中なんですが、
とある友人に何をプレゼントするのかは決まりました。- FATのスウェットです！

But what size is he? Knowing your own size can be hard, and knowing someone else's is not easy either.

でも、、、彼のサイズは何！？
自分のサイズをきちんと知ることも、それほど簡単なことではないので、
増してや身の回りの人のサイズをきちんと知ることって難しいですよね。

I keep three things in mind: height, build, and this is important - style.

こういうとき、僕は３つの規準で考えます：
身長、体系、そしてもっとも重要な点「その人のスタイル」。

My friend is about 178cm; he's a thin guy, with long arms and legs; his weekday style is very smart - suits and business casual - but his weekend style is more relaxed.

友達の身長が178センチ。
そして体型はやせていて、長くガリガリの手足。
ウィークデーには、彼はスーツやビジネスカジュアル的な、とてもスマートなスタイルを．．．
しかし週末になるとリラックススタイルをしています。

So the present will be for his weekend wear: he won't be wearing a suit jacket over the sweater, so it's OK if the arms are loose; he has to be conservative during the week, so I think something fun and colorful for the weekend is good; but he'll probably be going to town on the weekend so he doesn't want to look too messy.

だから彼へのプレゼントは週末用に向けたもの。
スーツのジャケットを上に着ることはないなので、袖に余裕があっても大丈夫。
月曜から金曜はカタめの着こなしをしているので、
週末はよりカラフル、より面白い洋服がよいのでは？と思います。
ただ、週末でも街に出るだろうから、だらしないものはダメ。

With all that in mind, I'm going to get him HOTDOG in red. His size is going to be FAT or SKINNY, so which one?

それらのことをふまえると、HOTDOG がベストなのでは！
...そしてサイズは SKINNY か FAT のどっちがよいか？

Well, HOTDOG is a polyester mix sweat so there's no need to worry about shrinking; more important, our food series polyester mix sweats have a slightly larger shoulder width, and body width, compared to reverse weave models.

HOTDOG は、ポリエステル混の素材なので、縮むことはまず考えなくて良いです。
それより、今回のこのフードシリーズ・スウェットは、
FAT のリバーズウィーブ系のスウェットに比べたら、肩幅とボディー幅がより広いです。

So, SKINNY is the best choice! The sleeves might be a little short for him, but I imagine he will be wearing a casual shirt underneath the sweater, so the cuffs of his shirt will cover any problem with arm length.

ってことで、SKINNY で決まり！
袖が多少短く感じる可能性はあるけれども、
このスウェットの下にカジュアルなシャツを合わせることも予想すると、
シャツの袖口が、それをカバーしてくれます。

Now, back to thinking about what to buy for me (laughs)

さて、自分のプレゼントを考えなきゃ！（笑）

Department stores putting their trees out super-early is normal; but convenience stores are playing Xmas music already!? Wow, Crimbo gets bigger every year...

デパートがかなり早くからクリスマスツリーを置くのはわかるけど、
コンビニがもう Xmas風 BGM になっているなんて！？ 驚きです。。。
クリスマスの存在感が、毎年さらに大きくなっています。

The best part of Christmas is the presents. So with all this Holiday feeling about town, I can't help thinking about what to buy. For myself of-course! (laughs)

クリスマスの楽しみといえばプレゼント。

で、こんなにも街が Xmasな雰囲気になっていると、
「何を買えば良いのか？」と考えずにはいられません。

もちろん「自分に何を買えば良いのか？」とね！（笑）

On the never-ending search for the ultimate CD (laughs) - I found this.

果てしない「最高のCD探し」をしているなか(笑)．．．
これを見つけちゃいました。

"Walter's Room" by Black Science Orchestra; what a name!

ブラックサイエンスオーケストラの「Walter's Room」。
すごいグループ名ですね！

There's so much interesting stuff in this music: house, soul, R&B, jazz, elements of funk and hip-hop. Some tracks are a little bit "cafe-musicy", but lets not hold that against it.

この音楽にはたくさん面白い要素があります。
ハウス、ソール、R&B、ジャズ、
そしてファンクやヒップホップ的な部分も。
ところどころ、ちょっと「カフェミュージック」っぽいけど
全然気にならないです。

The sleeve design is really reminiscent of old jazz albums, and when I bought it I thought "wow, not many groups do covers like that anymore..."

ジャケットのデザインが昔のジャズレコードに似ていて、買った時に

「こんなジャケットをやる人はもういないかと．．．」

って思いました。

And they don't, this was made in 1996.

で、やっぱりいませんでした。
このアルバムは 1996年にリリースされたものでした。

Just more proof that truly good things are always good, no matter the time.

本当に良いものは、いつの時代も変わず良いもの
ということでしょうね。

I wasn't really a glasses person...until BOGGLES.

FAT の BOGGLES が出るまで、
僕は普段メガネをしないタイプでした。

Glasses are a great way to accessorize; but it's important not to go over the top with them. I think they are perfect for those days when you don't want to dress up...

メガネはとても有効なアクセサリーだけど、
キャラをつくりすぎないことがすごく大事です。

逆にやり込んだ着こなしをしたくない日に、
僕はメガネを使っています．．．

But the main thing to remember with an item like this is: it's fun not fashion! (laughs)

といいつつ、こういったアイテムで忘れないようにしたいのは・・・
考え込むことより楽しむこと！（笑）

Today is the day - the United States Presidential election.

アメリカ大統領の選挙日がようやく来ましたね。

I'm sure there's all kinds of factors that affect people's decision on a candidate; the campaigns do a very good job of making those decisions into branding choices.

候補者の選び方にはきっと、人それぞれ様々な規準があると思いますが、
候補者のキャンペーンはその「選び方」をブランディングの「選び方」に
シフトさせる事がすごく上手です。

Things are a lot easier at FAT. You just choose "What's FAT to you?" (laughs)

FAT の場合、「選び方」はすごく簡単。。。
「What's FAT to you?」しか考えなくていいですからね(笑)

Along with the "long time no eat" lunch at Rommy, we had a "long time no see" moment with this guy.

「数年ぶり」に Rommy でお昼を食べていると、この人と「数ヶ月ぶり」に再会。

I think he was happy to see us too (laughs). Isn't it funny how you always bump into something, or someone, everytime you go to "ura-Harajuku"?

彼も久し振りの再会に喜んでいる様子。(笑)

裏原に行くたびに、なんかしらの出会いがあることが、
きっとこのエリアの面白さなんですよね。

There are many performance machines of Italian decent: there's Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini....and now we have Giamatti (laughs).

イタリア製の性能が高いマシーン、いわゆる「パーフォーマンス・マシーン」
ってたくさんありますよね。
フェラーリ、マセラッティー、ランボルギーニ、、、
そして、「ジアマッティー」！（笑）

Paul Giamatti is a very well respected actor, and I was glad to see he won an Emmy (the TV equivalent of an Oscar) for "Outstanding Lead Actor".

ポール・ジアマッティーはすごく尊敬されている俳優さんなので、
彼が「エミー賞」（テレビでのオスカー賞）を受賞したことがすごく嬉しいです。
ちなみに1番ステータスのある「主演男優賞」部門で受賞しましたね。

He was starring in the HBO miniseries "John Adams" - about the life of the 2nd President of the United States. Maybe we'll get this series in Japan? Perhaps Executive Producer Tom Hanks can pull some strings for us...(laughs)

彼が主演したのはHBOミニ・シリーズの「John Adams」です。
このシリーズはアメリカ第2代大統領の「John Adams」の人生、
当時のアメリカについてが描かれています。
とにかくこのシリーズのクオリティーはすばらしいので、
是非日本でもリリースして欲しいです。。。
プロデューサーも「トムハンクス」ですしね。（笑）

So I was just browsing in the underground Book1st, in Shibuya,
and I came across a sale corner.

渋谷の Book1st をブラブラしていると、
「セールコーナー」を見つけちゃいました。

I found a book about Western interiors and architecture called
"Period Details Sourcebook."

そして「Period Details Sourcebook」という
欧米のインテリアや建築物の本を発見。

Old houses are worth much more if they are restored to period appearance, so I think many homeowners are interested in this culture thesedays.

古い家の外装と内装をきれいにし、
その当時の様子に戻せたら、家の価値が倍になるそうです。
だから古い家を所有している人たちは、今必死にこの文化を学ぼうとしているんだとか。

I don't own a period home, but the book is interesting to me as we use many period details in our clothing at FAT - so it's fun to see how architects and interior designers do the same thing as us.

残念ながら僕はこういう古い家を持っていません。。。

でも、FAT が洋服にたくさんの「当時のディテール」を盛り込むように、
建築家やインテリアデザイナーがどうやって「当時のディテール」を
家に盛り込むのかがこの本の面白いところです。

I wonder what the FAT design team would do if they had the chance to design a period house? (laughs).

We've been really busy getting ready for the new delivery of "Vis-A-Vis"; but, amongst all the work, the FAT crew had a chance to go to the theatre!

「Vis-A-Vis」ラインの次のデリバリー（10月11日）に向けて、僕達はバタバタしています。
しかし忙しいなか、FAT crew で舞台に行くきっかけがありました！

We were invited by FAT friend Sakai Maki to see her in the comedy "Sharp-san, Flat-san." Theatre is very different from Cinema, but this show was interesting as it blurs that difference really well.

FATフレンズの坂井真紀さんから、
坂井さんが出演しているコメディー「シャープさんフラットさん」に招待していただきました。

本来、舞台は映画と全然別物ですが、
うまくその違いをボカして見せてくれて面白かったです。

Japanese humor is very different to me, so I had to be careful not to laugh in the wrong places - I think I did OK (laughs). The performers did more than OK though, they were all awesome. I don't know how they do it...

日本のユーモアは、僕が慣れ親しんだものとは少し違うので、
みんなとは違ったところで笑ってしまうのではないか！と心配していましたが、
なんとか普通の「観客」を演じられたと思います（笑）。

出演者のみなさんは、当然「なんとか」ではなく、とても演技が上手。

役者さんってすごいですよね．．．

An FAT partner lent me some new music recently...
With new things, sometimes you lose, and sometimes you win; this was a winner!

先日、FAT のとあるパートナーさんから、いろんな CD をお借りしました．．．
当然新しいものには「アタリ」「ハズレ」がありますよね。
これは大アタリでした！

Isn't it funny how we find-out new interests like this...

こうやって新しい「好み」を発見できることはすばらしいですね．．．
